SUNY and Wuxi Municipal Government Overseas Training Base Signing Ceremony
Dcember 3, 2008On December 3, 2008, a delegation from Wuxi Municipal Government came to the Levin Institute to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between Wuxi Municipal Government and The State University of New York (SUNY) regarding Educational Cooperation.
Wuxi is a booming city located in Jiangsu Province, China. Due to its recent economical development, Wuxi has been dubbed the “little Shanghai”. The delegation was led by Mr. Weizi Yang, Party Secretary of Wuxi and Mr. Bin Ni, Assistant Mayor of Wuxi and Director of Wuxi Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau. On behalf of SUNY, Dr. Nicholas Rostow, Vice Chancellor and University Counsel of SUNY and Mr. Garrick Utley, President of the Levin Institute signed the agreement. Ms. Lin Wei, the Chief Representative of SUNY China Office, who has been instrumental in bringing Wuxi and SUNY together, was also present at the signing ceremony.
The agreement is to enhance the training and education levels of Wuxi’s government and workforce and to promote understanding between New York State and Jiangsu Province. The agreement will be in effect in 2009 and for 3 years. According to the agreement, SUNY will provide specially-designed programs at various SUNY institutions in the areas of Public Administration, Software Outsourcing Services, Technology Management and Commercialization and Regional Development and Foreign Investment, etc.
