Dr. Denis F. Simon, Provost & VP for Academic Affairs The Levin Institute offers a broad range of academic programs designed for both working professionals and traditional graduate students. The goal of the Levin academic experience is to provide all students with a combination of analytic tools, cross-cultural skills, and global perspectives needed to inform successful leadership as well as managerial thinking and decision-making in the 21st century. The curriculum is highly interdisciplinary, with a heavy emphasis on experiential learning, team-building, and leadership skills. |

Working with its various counterparts across the SUNY system, the academic program at the Levin Institute has the ability to draw upon the full array of faculty, library and information resources, and educational technologies of the entire State University of New York. In addition, the Levin Institute is able to marshal together other academic resources from educational institutions in the greater New York area as well as with its overseas educational partners on an as-needed basis to support unique internationally-oriented curricula initiatives. Levin's core competence is built around the concept of "Cross Management"--the ability to lead and manage across borders and cultures. It is our belief that the ability to surmount cultural as well as political, economic and regulatory divides in an era of globalization defines the successful manager of the 21st century. With that in mind, we have ensured that a Levin education offers each student the opportunity to gain expertise and knowledge in three specific areas. | ![]() |
First, all students necessarily gain a solid understanding of the macro-international environment, including a familiarity with the global political, economic and security situation - past, present and future. In addition, students are exposed to the complexities of newly emerging transnational issues as they relate to topics such as global health, energy, environment, demographic, and science and technology affairs. Second, Levin students develop an appreciation for the important role of cross-cultural and social factors across business, government and NGOs, including how they influence managerial systems, organizational behavior, and decision-making and negotiation processes. Finally, students attending Levin develop core skills in international management, including a "tool kit" across such key competencies as marketing, finance, human resource management, strategy, and management of technology. Working with their respective academic advisors, traditional graduate students also have the ability to develop specific areas of concentration as part of their career development preparation. These concentrations provide each student a chance to extend his/her specialization into unique areas of interest and expertise. Each Levin student will identify a blend of courses, complemented by a select number of internships in New York City to fill out their chosen concentration. On account of its flexible, modular format, Levin is able to offer specialized semester-long, for-credit academic programs. Each semester, in cooperation with several other SUNY campuses, Levin will offer a select number of "special topics" courses. Graduate students from both inside and outside of the SUNY system will be able to spend a full semester in New York City combining learning experiences inside and outside the classroom. Future topics include international finance and banking, global management of technology, managing the global supply chain and working with a global talent pool. Levin's academic offerings for working professionals are built around a series of open market credit and certificate courses - short and semester-long - as well as an array of customized cohort programs developed in conjunction with the specific needs of individual organizations. Our goal is to provide ongoing advanced education to enable professionals interested in internationally-based careers, from both the for-profit and not-for profit domains, to secure and maintain leadership positions in their organizations at home and abroad. | |
