Sloan Foundation to sponsor Levin Innovate New York series

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has agreed to provide $60,000 to support a six-event series called Innovate New York, to be held at the Levin Institute throughout 2009, and co-sponsored by the New York Academy of Sciences.  The series is modeled after the successful Levin event “Why is New York NOT a Capital of Innovation” which was held on June 10, 2008.  That event featured Levin President Garrick Utley moderating a discussion with Irving Wladawsky-Berger (IBM, MIT), Jerry Hultin (Polytechnical Institute of NYU) and Jim Singer (AT Kearney) and resulted in a very dynamic discourage among a diverse audience.

Innovate New York will feature similar dialogues moderated by Mr. Utley on the following topics:

  • Global Entrepreneurship: April 1, 2009
    • Vivek Wadhwa, a fellow with the Labor and Worklife Program at Harvard Law School and executive in residence/adjunct professor at the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University
    • Jonathan Bowles, Director Center for an Urban Future
    • Dr. Amar Bhide, Professor of Business, Columbia University
    • Matt Nimetz, Chief Operating Officer, General Atlantic
  • Global meets Digital April 22, 2009
    • Betsy Motgan, Huffington Post
    • Geoffrey Sands, McKinsey & Co.
    • Michael Steib, Google
    • Michael Zimbalist, The New York Times
  • International Finance:  Innovation and Regulation
  • Innovation in Services
  • The Future of Life Science
  • Innovation in Arts and Culture

The Levin Institute gratefully acknowledges the support of the Sloan Foundation, and our partnership with the Academy.
