The Levin International Finance and Global Investment Banking Semester in New York

Levin welcomed seventeen students to the Fall International Finance and Global Investment Banking semester in New York.  They are second year MBA students who’ve come to Levin for advanced study in global banking and finance.

There are 8 countries represented in the group with students having work experience in companies such as Citibank; Cathay financial Holdings in Taipei; Bank of China; M&T Mortgage; Industrial Regional Bank in Russia; Marconi Communications; DHL AIR of the U.K.; SWIFTAIR, S.A. in Spain  and Business Integration Partners in Italy (a 2003 spin-off of Deloitte Italia).

The academic program focuses on developing a deep practical knowledge of international accounting systems; global capital markets; international banking and finance systems; investment tools and techniques and global risk assessments.

The Levin program places equal emphasis on developing skills such as problem solving; risk assessment; presentation skills; leadership and intercultural team building.

These skills are honed through a series of career development workshops and tested in a capstone “Global Action Project.”  This is a semester long team project that requires students to apply their knowledge and skills to a real-world problem presented to them by a sponsoring company.   The results are presented to the sponsor as part of their final grade.  This Fall, project sponsors include:  General Atlantic; Bear Stearns and Morgan Stanley.

Students who successfully complete the semester receive graduate credits toward their MBA from their home institution as well as a certificate from the Levin Institute.
